Brownies is a proud member of the Digital Club Network. This means that every band playing at the club can have their performance webcast through the DCN site. At this time, you cannot download or save any of the casts, but there is a sizeable library that you can access at any time for free. Log on to DCN to see shows live at Brownies as well as dozens of other clubs around the world.
The real idea here is that at some time in the not-too-distant future, broad-band high-speed internet access will be widespread. When that happens, consumers will be able to receive online concert-films from any club anywhere on the planet. The quality of these webcasts is getting better and better. In the future, a band will be able to offer "pay-per view" gigs online. If this technology can create a new source of income for young and underground bands, we're all for it!
Yes, there are all kinds of questions about the possible negative implications of digital distribution, pirating, etc etc. Brownies takes a more pragmatic view of how the internet will change the music business. We feel pretty confident that technology will be developed to make sure that everyone has to pay for digital downloads and transfers of music. The music business has to make this adjustment if they want to be able to sell their products.
And if for some reason they don't develop one, we're in for a bigger revolution that expected. The global/digital information-revolution is not going to halt because Lars Ulrich needs another Jaguar. The planet is moving forward and this media provides enormous potential for independent and underground voices to circumvent the corporate gatekeepers to get their messages out. The people who exploit this new media in its infancy are the ones who will steer how it will be used in the coming decades.
So be a part of it. And while you're at it, see a show in your living room at Digital Club Network.
